TESTING, TESTING
      The IOC introduces gender testing at the 1968 Games as well as drug testing of athletes after every event.

EAST VS. WEST
      East Germany and West Germany receive IOC permission to compete as separate nations.

LONG-DISTANCE OLYMPICS
      Grenoble serves as the host city for the 1968 Games, but venues are dispersed all over the region nter Olympics since its first participation in 1952, Norway is the nation that sits atop the overall medal standings.

MAN IN BLACK AT THE KILLYMPICS
      The French hail home-country hero Jean-Claude Killy, as the 24-year-old is the first in 12 years to sweep all three Alpine events. However, it took a controversy to complete the three-gold sweep, with Killy receiving his third gold in the slalom only after Austriais flustered by a spectator on the course ls rule that the two missed gates in the original run came before coming upon the intruder on the course, tack on the penalty time to his retake run (bumping him out of first place) and then proclaim Killy the winner and gold medalist.

      Under the direction of IOC president Avery Brundage, Olympic organizers try to ban the use of trade and brand names on sporting equipment in hopes of limiting commercialism in the Olympics. However, they backtrack when several of the top skiers threaten a boycott of their events.
