3 sites earn safety kudos
The Utah Olympic Public Safety Command gave a big "thank you" to Deer Valley, Park City and Heber on Friday.
UOPSC leaders thanked the ski resorts and the city for bending over backward in working with the military to make the Olympics as safe as possible. Putting a Marine radar on top of a ski lift, using the Heber Airport's ramp space and running air patrol operations around Deer Valley and Park City were just a few of their contributions.
"That really added a lot of protection in air operations on the back side of the Wasatches," said Gen. J.D. Johnson, commander of the Joint Task Force Olympics.
More than 500 troops were stationed in Heber.
UOPSC leaders passed out awards Friday to Heber leaders, members of Deer Valley Resort and members of State Parks and Recreation.
"Thousands of pieces came together to make public safety work during the Olympics," said UOPSC Executive Director David Tubbs.
