Tab will be $58 million more than expected
The federal government will spend $58 million more than expected on the 2002 Winter Olympics.
But that's almost entirely due to post-Sept. 11 security measures, Salt Lake Organizing Committee officials said.
A U.S. General Accounting Office report in November pegged the government-aid figure at $342 million. That will probably rise to $400 million when the GAO files its final report on the Games, said Cindy Gillespie, SLOC's vice president for federal relations.
