Cities, bars catering to non-Oly crowds

Cities, bars owners and other businesses in perimeters surrounding the Games events are ready to cater to non-Olympic supporters.
The city of Sandy has even gone to the extra length of advertising that it's not the site of an Olympic venue. Through newspaper and radio ads, Sandy is making it clear locals can watch the Games on a superscreen TV at Jordan Commons without traveling for hours to get there and without having to undergo security searches and waiting in lines.
And those who do chose to venture into downtown Salt Lake City also can watch the Games at the Gallivan Center on its gigantic screen.
Then there are the local clubs catering to those who welcome a more private, more snugly warm setting.
The Canyon Inn, a private club at the mouth of Big Cottonwood Canyon, is giving locals preference over imported patrons in the long lines that follow the events. And the Point After private club in Murray decided to not charge a cover for patrons to get in.
"We do have some out-of-towners that are staying in the area for the Olympics, but I would say 95 percent of our business is people who are local and don't want to go downtown . . . or travel to see the events," said Point After manager Deedee Geissler. "So we're not doing anything different. We don't have to."
