Medals Plaza
It was a big night for Germany at the Olympic Medals Plaza Thursday.
The country swept the women's singles luge at Utah Olympic Park, and German Martina Ertl picked up a bronze medal in ladies' combined alpine skiing.
Also on Thursday, Croatian athlete Janica Kostelic picked up the gold medal in skiing combined, marking her country's first ever medal in the Winter Games.
Kostelic had a visible cheering section three enthusiastic men up front waving Croatia flags.
In another first, two Norwegians tied for the silver medal in men's cross country skiing, men's 10K classical and 10K free. No bronze medal was awarded.
Sheryl Crow closed the night with an hour-long performance on the Medals Plaza stage.
All of the medals awarded Thursday night were:
- Luge, women's singles: Gold, Sylke Otto, Germany; silver, Barbara Niedernhuber, Germany; bronze, Silke Kraushaar, Germany.
- Cross country skiing, men's 10K classical and 10K free: Gold, Johann Muehlegg, Spain; silver, Thomas Alsgaard, Norway; silver, Frode Estil, Norway.
- Alpine skiing, ladies' combined: Gold, Janica Kostelic, Croatia; silver, Renate Goetschl, Austria; bronze, Martina Ertl, Germany.
