WEST VALLEY CITY (AP) — Martin Gerber made 54 saves and Martin Pluss scored twice Thursday as Switzerland beat Austria 4-1 in the 11th-place game of the Olympic hockey tournament.
Jean-Jacques Aeschlimann added a goal and an assist for Switzerland (2-1-1).
Austria (1-3) outshot the Swiss 55-27, with Gerber turning away 22 shots during a scoreless first period.
Aeschlimann scored on a rebound at 10:25 of the second period after teammate Andre Rothelli won a faceoff in Austria's zone.
A sliding block by Gerber helped set up the second goal. Pluss scooped up the puck, broke down the right wing and beat goaltender Reinhard Divis with a slapshot for a 2-0 lead at the 16:39 mark.
Julien Vauclair and Pluss added third-period goals for Switzerland. Thomas Searle scored the Austrian goal.
