Persistent activist gets his wish: He's arrested
An activist who had apparently been trying for a couple of days to get arrested at Salt Lake Olympic Square, 300 W. South Temple, finally got his wish Wednesday.
Patrick Mahoney and Brandi Swindell were denied access to the Olympic Square Tuesday because they were carrying protest signs. Wednesday, the pair returned with more poster-size fluorescent signs and were informed they would be arrested for trespassing if they continued, a Salt Lake City Police report stated.
Swindell handed her sign to Mahoney, who continued to walk around the area with the signs. Officers approached Mahoney and arrested him for trespassing.
Mahoney told police his intent was to be arrested so he would get to appear in court, the report stated. Police cited and released Mahoney and confiscated his signs.
His scheduled court date is March 11.
