Games to leave (post)marks
The U.S. Postal Service will offer 23 special postmarks to commemorate the events of the 2002 Winter Games.
The first postmark featured the arrival of the Olympic torch in Salt Lake Thursday.
All 23 postmarks, 15 honoring sports and eight recognizing locations or events, will be available through Feb. 24, only at the temporary Crossroads Plaza post office, on the north end of the lower level of the mall.
Post office hours are Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
"The use of postmarks to commemorate special events is a time-honored tradition of the Postal Service," Stephen L. Johnson, Salt Lake District manager said.
Each postmark is free with the purchase of a first-class postage stamp.
The postmarks are also available by mail. To receive the stamps, patrons need to affix first-class postage stamps to 23 envelopes, addressed to themselves or others, place them all in one large envelope and then send to: Winter Olympics Postmarks, P.O. Box 31800, Salt Lake City, UT 84131-0800.
All mail orders must be received by March 10.
