Shea invited to State of Union

Jim Shea Jr., the skeleton athlete from Lake Placid, N.Y., will represent Olympians during President Bush's State of the Union Address tonight.
When the Salt Lake Winter Games begin on Feb. 8, he will be the third generation of his family to go to the Olympics for America. His grandfather, Jack Shea, won two gold medals in the Lake Placid 1932 Games while his father, Jim Sr., competed in the 1964 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck, Austria.
All three were looking forward to the youngest Olympian's debut. "Grandpa's the proudest man in the United States, I think," Jack Shea told the Deseret News on Jan. 6. Tragically, on Jan. 21, the 91-year-old was killed in a traffic accident.
Jim Shea Jr. will sit with First Lady Laura Bush during the State of the Union Address. He was the only Olympian invited to attend.
