Alborn headlines U.S. jumping team

PARK CITY — Alan Alborn, who has finished in the Top 10 three times in World Cup ski jumping events this season, was selected Thursday to a young U.S. team for the Salt Lake City Olympics.
The 21-year old Alborn, from Anchorage, Alaska, will be competing in his second Winter Games. He'll be joined by three teenagers on the youngest U.S. team in history.
Alborn has produced the best World Cup results for an American jumper in more than decade, finishing fourth at an event in Germany last month. Mike Holland had four Top-10 finishes in 1989.
Alborn is ranked 15th in the World Cup rankings despite missing five meets.
Also on the U.S. team are three jumpers from Steamboat Springs, Colo., Brendan Doran, 22, a 1998 Olympian; Clint Jones, 17; and Tommy Schwall, 18; and Brian Welch, of Scarborough, Maine, who turns 18 today.
