Utah connections

      Cathy Priestner Allinger, SLOC's managing director of sport, won a silver medal for Canada in the 500-meter race in Innsbruck, Austria, in 1976.
      Nick Thometz, SLOC's long-track speedskating director, competed in three Olympic Winter Games, finishing fourth in the 1,000 meters in the 1984 Games in Sarajevo.
      Barbara Day Lockhart, Ph.D., a professor of physical education at BYU, was one of the first U.S. women's speedskaters. She competed in the 1960 and 1964 Olympics.
      Bonnie Blair, winner of five Olympic gold medals in the 500 meter and 1,000 meter events, stretching from the 1988 Games in Calgary to the 1992 Games in Albertville, France and the 1994 Games in Lillehammer, Norway, is residing in Utah until the 2002 Games.
