Utah connections

While no Utah-born athletes are expected to be on the 2002 Olympic squad, the Beehive State has become a second home for the nation's top nordic combiners. The national team spent much of the 2001 summer training at the ski jumping facility at Utah Olympic Park. Their familiarity with the Utah venues — coupled with local support — should offer a homecourse advantage to American nordic combiners.
Also, U.S. national coach Tom Steitz, a Steamboat Springs, Colo., resident, attended Utah State in the 1970's, competing as an alpine and cross country skier.
