Tracy Aviary

In the late 1930s, Salt Lake banker Russell Lord Tracy donated his extensive bird collection to the city. Since 1938, a collection of birds similar to the one Tracy turned over has been on display at the Tracy Aviary, located on about 7 acres of land in the south end of Liberty Park at 589 E. 1300 South.

The aviary's collection normally exceeds 400 birds representing more than 130 species. Many of the birds are rare and on endangered species lists. The aviary sponsors several educational programs and has regular bird shows for the public.
After being run for several years by the city, the aviary is now operated by the Friends of Tracy Aviary non-profit corporation. The aviary is accredited by the American Zoo Association and American Aquarium Association.
The aviary's winter hours are from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for children and seniors. For more information call 801-322-2473 or visit the aviary Web site at www.tracyaviary.org.
