Cedar Breaks National Monument
Another of Utah's top tourist attractions is Cedar Breaks National Monument, a miniature Bryce Canyon located 23 miles east of Cedar City on U-148.
The deep coliseum of naturally-formed colorful rock spires and columns provide a beautiful contrast to surrounding forests and meadows. Wildflower displays in the summer are magnificent.
Because of the 10,000-foot altitude of the monument and steep road leading the to area, however, the Cedar Breaks Visitors Center and surrounding campgrounds are normally closed from late fall to early spring. The highway also is often closed in the winter because of heavy snow.
Cross-county skiers and snowmobilers, however, often access the area from Brian Head Ski Resort, which is three miles to the north. More information about Cedar Breaks is available by calling 1-435-586-9451 or by visiting www.nps.gov/cebr/.
