Reader comments: Iron Man

I am Iron Man! This movie rocked! It ranks right up there with the best super hero movies ever made. Super hero movies have dominated the last few years. No other movies have been able to rival the X-Men, Spiderman, or new Batman series starting with Batman Begins. Movies are just not great anymore unless they are superhero movies. But many superhero movies have failed. This movie gives us another super hero movie series to get excited about. Very well done!

Batman Begins is MUCH better then Iron Man. That's probably one of the best movies ever made. At least when someone gets hit in that movie, they fall down.
To the last comment--nice try at the insults. Sorry, but I think I have more of a brain then just liking things that blow up and make a big boom to be entertained.

Why do people insist on going to movies based on comic books and expecting that they be realistic and socially responsible? Honestly people! Please, do the rest of us a favor and CONSIDER THE SOURCE MATERIAL before entering the theater. Iron Man is a SUPER HERO. He's based on a comic book character. REALISM WOULD COMPLETELY DEFEAT THE PURPOSE OF THIS MOVIE.
Does the film make light of real-world terrorism? Yes. Are the physics impossible? Yes again. Does any of that matter in terms of entertainment? Not at all. Forget the laws of gravity and inertia. They only apply in the real world, where Iron Man is unfortunately nothing more than the creation of a brilliant mind.
IF you can go to this movie fully prepared to remember that it's ok for super heroes to forge their own laws (physical and otherwise), you should really enjoy this movie. Stunning action sequences, superb acting, engaging story line...this one sits on my list of favorites right under Batman Begins, and that's saying a lot.
To the type of people who believe this movie is "insulting people of intelligence", kindly keep your pompous, arrogant statements to yourself. I'd pay good money to see someone lower that kind of an insult to the face of the average comic-book fan. Odds are they know more about physics, literature, and technology, and are still open-minded enough to realize that only self-important prats actually expect movies and comic books to fall neatly within the realm of 'reality'. Honestly.

I am confused.
How could this be a good movie?
The scene that lost me was when he is flying in the air and basically is involved in a full on crash WITH A JET!!
Is he physically hurt at all? Oh, of course not! (Note the sarcasm)!
But the JET?!? Totaled. Wing ripped off. Are you kidding me??!!
That scene was so bad it made me laugh.
And the ending?
Oh, yes. Some huge power surge shoots in the sky killing his villain while the hero somehow barely survives even though he's just as close to this "power surge" as the villain was.
It sounds even more silly to me as I type it!

To the poster concerned about the audience laughter when he shot 4 people at the same time, it's the same thing as when Indiana Jones shoots the guy with the sword. The terrorists were using people as human shields, basically saying "you can't get to us because we have innoncents in our way" and Iron Man simply used his technology to take them out and keep the innocents safe. It was a hilarious scene, and you need to lighten up.

There isn't a better movie out there right now. I know some might say spider man or even the first xmen or batman returns for that matter. But Iron man is the best even with all the holes that they could have filled had the made the movie another 45 minutes longer. I would have watched for antoher 45 easily!!
Not to mention they are bringing up a ton of other great possibilities!! Where after the next batman I don't know if two face is going to make me go ooh and ahh, kind of like xmen three sucked!

This movie was amazing. I loved every minute of it! Yay!!! Totally surprised!

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! It's a must see! It definitely left me on the edge and wanting more. It sets itself up for a sequal...there's no doubt about that. Great movie nonetheless!!!

To the May 4th guy, "the story line and script are an insult to people of intelligence".... Wow, this was a very awkward statement. If you're groping around for intellectual stimulation, you should read a book. This is a super hero movie. In my opinion, this is one of the two best super hero movies I've ever seen if you're looking for something based on sound reason. Tony Stark doesn't become a super hero because his DNA was somehow altered; he becomes Iron Man because of his brilliance and god-given genius and innovation. In my book this puts it on the same level as Batman. This moving is... amazing... I was not really looking forward to this movie because the trailer didn't get me very excited. There are a lot of super hero movies coming out these days and I don't get too excited. But I was BLOWN away. This is the best movie I've seen all year!

Yes, the film was entertaining, especially the technical scenes. But I was very troubled at the brutality depicted in the Afganistan scenes. Of course this is reality today in the Middle East, but including it as entertainment is WRONG. I was astonished when the audience LAUGHED when Iron Man's shoulder-mounted guns killed four enemy soldiers simultaneously. Clearly those in my audience have become desensitized to violence and killing. Even worse, there were many little children present in the theater. What were those parents thinking?!? This is a very violent movie.

Robert Downey Jr. was a delight as always. I found the film better than average but nothing spectacular. 3 stars out of 4. Speed Racer was a better film.

To the person who was offended by the movie...What did you expect? it's a comic book movie about a guy in a metal suit that has a LOT of weapons!! Did you think he was going to talk to the bad guys and convince them of their misguided feelings? He blows things up. He wants revenge. The movie stuck pretty dang close to the book. Get over it and go watch Enchanted or something.

Awesome, I had wanted to see the movie but was worried it would not deliver. Best comic book movie yet.

| May. 6, 2008
That was the best movie of the year so far. Exellently put together. Simply magical. They must make a second one. It ended to quickly though. Great special effects also.

We just went and saw it and we all really liked it. I really can't imagine why anyone wouldn't like it. Excellent action and well put together. I was worried when they cast Robert in the lead roll but he was super good. My only complaint is that it was only two hours. I could have watched another 30 minutes or so. Plus it did kind of end quickly but I know they did that to leave you wanting more and they accomplished that quite well. This could be the next Spider Man kind of quality series. Lets Hope!

All I can say is WOW!!!! GO SEE IT!!!
| May. 5, 2008
Uh, I think the point is that he starts out as a libertine, but learns that he's been doing a lot of wrong in the world, and sets out to make it right. Yeah, that's a horrible thing to learn.

Great flick.
| May. 4, 2008
I found the movie very offensive on many levels. Very, very violent for one thing. The main character is a libertine--but is still a "hero." And the story line and script are an insult to people of intelligence. I do not recommend it to anyone.
