I found the movie, "200 Cigarettes" quite by accident. The was nothing left late at night for me to rent, so I brought home the film to liven up a boring evening alone. It was a remarkable find! This movie is one of the best indie films I've ever seen. The acting is fine, but what stands out is the extremely well-crafted writing. Each character's story could stsand alone, and the intertwining of the plot lines is flawless. At a time when movies depend so heavily upon expensive special effects or big-name stars to carry a movie, it is a delight to see one that is filled with great writing and excellent actors creating a story worth watching. I've recommended this movie to a class for young writers. If every movies script had the attention to detail that this one has, the quality of films would be vastly improved. I hope that future screenwriters try to live up to the standards that this film has set. The gauntlet has been thrown down---come meet the challenge.
