anyone who thinks this crap is good should have a lobotomy
or maybe already has.
AVI GREEN | Nov. 30, 2000
When the Columbus Dispatch reviewed this blatant drivel,
they said that Williams was trying to push doctors for
sainthood. And that's very disrespectful of the patients,
if you ask me. And the movie is also very disrespectful of
the viewers, so why all you other jerks would like a movie
that's actually against you as customers is way beyond me.
And it seems to me that Potter is in this mishmash for one
purpose only: to die. If a goon like Adams had come into my
hospital room, and started harrasing me, I'd have called
the police. Who, in fact, ought to have been called in to
arrest the filmmakers of this slop before they'd even
begun. Blecch.
MELANIE PRICE | Nov. 11, 1999
i walked out of the theatre with a good feeling
when i saw this movie.it was sad at parts.
jakob the liar is much sadder. it also made me laugh.
would like to see it again. robin williams makes me
laugh, touches my heart, and makes me smile.
i really wished i could tell him that in person.
HEATHER | Oct. 14, 1999
it was dull and too long!
they made the whole thing last soo long and drag on.
not worth seeing
ANNONYMOUS | Jul. 27, 1999
I'm sorry, but I thought there'd be more to this movie. I
didn't get what happened to his girlfriend though, and why
she hated men. It must've been pretty bad though. It was
nice though what Patch Adams did for all of those people. I
cried at a couple of parts! :)
KELLEN HARTLEST | Apr. 29, 1999
This critic sucks so bad it is not even funnt you are way
out of proportion you should have never been let into this
buisness in the first place. this movie was spectacular. it
went on my #1movie spot from the very begining. Robin was
still the same old him, but I can't get enough of it. he was
perfect for the role and should be respected for his
wonderful and convincing performence.
THOMAS W FRANCIS | Apr. 28, 1999
question for Mr.Vice. does he like any movie. The critics
in the 1930's said that Wizard of Oz would never endure the
test of time and that Gone With The Wind would be a box
office flop.
OPIE | Apr. 17, 1999
Wonderful movie, any one who doesn't like this movie has no
heart and hates mankind. This movie teachs us to be
differnt. People say there differnt from teh crowd and
there going ot do ther own thing but their own thing is the
same as any one else! We can make a differnce in some one
elses life. I best part of the movie is that it doens't
follow the *Hollywood criteria* there is no sex in this
movie! woo hoo! I like it when the girl dies becuse it
make us relize that life isn't allways a happy ending and
patch Adams still sent on and I love the speach at the end
he makes a lot of good piont on life. We can learn from
this movie in so many ways
THOMAS | Apr. 17, 1999
I think this movie was THE BEST!!!! 80% of the people
agree with me. They said it was 4**** stars or better. If
i could i would rank this a
100*********************************************************
**************************************** star film!!!! You
have to see it! Robin Williams is soooooooo sexy!
BEATRICE | Apr. 5, 1999
I have two words for all you people out there: LOVED IT!
SCOTT | Mar. 24, 1999
OK, so I was manipulated by a formula movie that offended
the critics. Maybe the kid who likes the roller coaster
least is the one who has ridden it too many times.
BUBBA THE LOVE SPONGE | Mar. 15, 1999
Critics from coast to coast agree...it's a movie from start
to finish
GET A LIFE | Mar. 13, 1999
All I gotta say is that Deseret news should fire this
"Critic" And hire someone with a brain!
P.S The movie was awesome.
DAVID HOLLAND | Feb. 19, 1999
I would have to agree with 95% of the people above that
really liked this movie. Very good comments. I would also
like to agree that we need to get a real moview critic
again like Chris Hicks. I hate to be mean, but the reviews
are pretty meaningless except to give you a hint of the
storyline. Good job, fellow amateur movie critics! =)
ROBIN SMITH | Feb. 9, 1999
I LOVED it, I felt good all the way home, I don't see how
people can't like it. It's definently one of Robins best!
MR. MUFFLY | Feb. 5, 1999
Hollywood has recipes that make people feel a certain way.
One part love interest, one part tough competition, a dash
of underdog, stiffly beaten passionate court speech, etc. I
guess they know that most people go to movies to turn off
their brain. It's kind of upsetting to see that the general
public (who is always critical of Hollywood) is so quickly
manipulated by their shallow cliches. Especially, in the
case of this movie, cliches that promote nonconformity. Now
THAT'S irony for you.
Jeffy was a little too kind to this is silly excuse for
humanity.
SHAUNE WALLACE | Jan. 30, 1999
This movie is great for the person in need of an
inspirational boost. Yes, it may be cliches but who doesn't
need to be reminded of the ideal. If you choose to ignore
this movie because you have heard it all a hundered times
before then you join the pessimistic crowd that make this
world such a difficult place to live in. Patch Adams can be
an example to all of us.
JOHN | Jan. 18, 1999
Walked out looking for some person to do something nice
for. I enjoyed it immensley. I'm not a critic, just one
who knows how to enjoy a good movie.
NICHOLAS NELSON | Jan. 18, 1999
Excellent flick! My wife and I came out of that movie
with a really good feeling. I don't know exactly how
realistic Robin William's character was but I don't care, it
made for an extremely entertaining two hours and was well
worth the $6 ticket. If you get the chance go out and
support this great movie.
LEO WHEELER | Jan. 15, 1999
This one is not to be missed I Laughed, I cried, I went
home feeling uplifted and relaxed. Robin Williams was
fantastic. Jeff vice is a turkey. This movie was well
worth the time and the money. DON'T YOU DARE MISS IT OR
YOU'LL MISS A GREAT ONE
LASTEADMAN | Jan. 10, 1999
Very sappy, cliche, predictable, but completely
inspirational! I'm not convinced Robin was a correct match
for the role innitially, but his deliverance is excellent!
It's innocense,is precisly the element that works. It's nice
to see a movie written about intellegence, that's not a dead
give away for a script written from the heart by someone in
the film business within it's original state.
One other thought.... I am in the film business, if any of
you others are too.... one question... do any of the narrow
minded Medical School Dean's portrayed in this film remind
you of any Producers and Directors you've met lately?
MELISSA | Jan. 8, 1999
THIS MOVIE ROCKED!!! If you haven't seen it and you like a
little humor and especially if you don't like humor you
need to see it. It is very inspirational and has a good
plot. The girl on it looked like Julia Roberts. This movie
has alot of truth to it and you can tell it is based on a
true story. I absolutly loved it and I can't wait to see it
again!!!!
SHERRY SWANSON | Jan. 8, 1999
I just wanted to say that Jeff Vice is no Chris Hicks.
Maybe I've been spoiled reading Chris Hicks's reviews for
so long. While I agreed with Chris on most occations,
rarely do I feel the same as Jeff Vice. By reading the
other oppinions on this page, I am not alone. Patch Adams
was a great movie and don't let any "critic" tell you
otherwise.
DIANE | Jan. 8, 1999
One of the best movies thus far. Williams is in true form as he prepares the audience to be shocked, saddened, and lifted up. My hubby and I really enjoyed this flick, we don't go often, but were impressed by all of the performances.
The only thing we didn't like was one word that kept getting in the way (pr k). Not my favorite. Anyway a real winner
SHARON HADDOCK | Jan. 8, 1999
Jeff Vice is right. This is an ideal role for Robin
Williams. He gets to play and be silly and totally throw
out the rules. It gets a little slow in the middle and
somewhat maudlin but since it's based on a true story, I
guess one can't argue with the truth, right? It's a neat
story for a family to see with teenagers. Had some great
grains of truth for discussion later.
DOUG | Jan. 5, 1999
This is the first movie in a while that made us feel good
all the way home! We are still laughing about it. This has
to be one of Robin's best. However, those who saw "What
Dreams" might not give it a chance.
DOUG WARD | Jan. 5, 1999

DAMON LARSON | Jan. 5, 1999
Is there a movie that Jeff Vice likes that is not a low
budget-foriegn film? I have absolutely no complaints about
this movie and the reviews it has been receiving make me
more aware that most American critics are out of touch with
what the American public wants. As I left the jam packed-
sold out theater I did not hear one complaint, only the
sound of people drying their eyes. The critics want us to
believe they are somehow above feeling this "sappy emotion"
and that we should skip this movie because of it. I'm
sorry folks, but Patch Adams will be a considered a clasic
long past you are writing your phoney reports!
HAROLD | Jan. 5, 1999
I saw this movie at a sneak preview on december 12, and am
very glad I got it out of the way. It is AWFUL! It claims
to be "emotional" and "heartfelt," but really it is one of
the most phony, deceitful movies I have seen in quite a
while--Robin Williams is just fine, but it's the same
performance he's already given several times. Most of the
characters are flimsier than paper and the script consists
primarily of tired cliches.
CYNTHIA | Jan. 3, 1999
I thought this movie was very inspirational. It was heart
wrenching. Robin Williams turns in a great performance. It
is very involving, and I think it deserved a higher rating
than Jeff Vice gave. I consider it a better film because
of its more inspirational message, etc. than the "You've Got
Mail" film which he rated higher. It is a much better movie
than "What Dreams May Come" in which Robin Williams starred
fairly recently.
JUNE ANDERSON | Dec. 29, 1998
Excellent and powerful ideas in this movie. At times it had
such strong truth and liberating moments that it reminded me
of Dead Poets Society. I wish they made more movies of this
flavor that are not only entertaining but leave you with an
altered perspective. Go see it! p.s. do you ever get the
feeling that if Vice were to make a movie himself he would
still only give it one star? just a thought.
MARK STODDARD | Dec. 29, 1998
If the purpose of a movie is to get you into their world and
out of yours, this movie is a triumph. If it is to make you
reconsider your world, it also succeeds. Although a critic
must point out the uneveness and predictability, none of it
matters. In the beginning, the middle and the end, the
movie Patch Adams works.
KIRK | Dec. 28, 1998
Very enjoyable. Full spectrum of emotions. Shortchanged by
Jeff Vice in Deseret News.
SOM | Dec. 14, 1998
i thought this was a great movie - inspirational, funny, and
emotional - the best thing about the movie is the lesson one
can learn from it - enjoy what you do and believe in
yourself
robin williams comes back strong after the boring and awful
"what dreams may come"
the first few scenes of this movie reminded me of "one flew
over a cuckoo's nest" and the ending reminded me of "scent
of a woman"
anyway,
this movie is great - it is worth shelling out 7 bucks to
see it - williams is solid and the story is good - like i
said earlier - funny, emotional and inspirational
