Reader comments: Patty Hearst
TOM | Mar. 14, 2001
Schrader's film biography PATTY HEARST is a chameleon like
portrait of a chameleon like subject. The film has a
dispassionate narrative of events from Hearst's own
subjective point of view. This point of view is not an
attempt to get at any one truth. Rather the film follows
Hearst through her ordeal and tries to register the
perceptions and emotions that she had at the time. Schrader
places more importance on Patty's awareness of haveing been
manipulated. Than on her understanding her actions and
accepting the consequences. In effect her ordeal was a
punishment handed out by fate and no one should judge.
Natasha Richardson gives a wonderful performance as PATTY
HEARST. This movie is a must see!!!!
