I would like to comment on the relationship of the Church News and the Deseret Morning News.

Unlike other Church magazines, the Church News is a section of the Deseret Morning News. It is compiled, written and edited by Deseret Morning News employees. It is supported entirely by the budget of the Deseret Morning News. This means that it is not supported by tithing funds or any other funds from the Church. While we do not allow any advertising in this very special section of the Deseret Morning News, it is the advertising in the remainder of the paper, and our local subscribers, that make it possible for us to provide this section to our readers inside and outside of our circulation area.

Simply stated, if you are a subscriber to the Deseret Morning News, you get our entire product, including the Church News. Our complete newspaper also includes some of the best reporting of local and regional news events in Utah plus important national and international news. Add that to our fine columnists, insightful editorials and special features that highlight quality of life issues and top-notch sports and business sections. You get all this and much more for 34 cents per day.

Our faithful subscribers and advertisers also make it possible for us to offer the Church News section of the Deseret News beyond our subscriptions boundaries. It would be both cost prohibitive and impractical to deliver the entire newspaper outside of Utah. But, because there is a large audience for the Church News section, we make it available through the Church Distribution Center.

Subscriptions to the Church News outside of Utah essentially cover only the cost of postage. As I stated earlier and wish to reaffirm, without our loyal subscribers and advertisers, there would be no Deseret Morning News and no Church News section. And appropriately, we want to express our appreciation to you and I hope that I express the appreciation for the thousands of readers of the Church News worldwide that are able to take advantage of this unique relationship and offer.

If you have any additional concerns and would like to speak to me personally, please feel free to call me. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Sincerely,

Jim M. Wall
