Corroon's job plan solid
HomeCorroon's job plan solid
It's no secret that our economy is struggling. Even though Utah has not been hit as hard as many places across the country, unemployment is still at 7.2 percent and the state has lost 72,000 jobs over the last two years.
The job issue won't fix itself. With a state budget shortfall projected at around $100 million, many of our current lawmakers have neglected to propose solutions to the problem that create jobs and increase revenue.
Today, Salt Lake County mayor and gubernatorial candidate Peter Corroon presented his job plan for the state. His plan will strengthen Utah's economy by supporting Utah's most important asset, its small businesses. Small businesses make up approximately 82 percent of Utah's economy, and the current state government's strategy of attracting big business is leaving bright-minded entrepreneurs and working families behind.
Without raising taxes, Corroon's plan will invest in our future while putting Utahns back to work. I am excited by Corroon's plan for the state and look forward to hearing his other proactive and inventive solutions for Utah.
