Ingredients
2 pounds ground beef
2 tablespoons Worcestershire or Pickapeppa sauce
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
6 slices bacon (optional)
4 ounces of your favorite flavored cream cheese or Boursin cheese (optional)
1/2 cup sunflower seeds (optional)
2 large tomatoes, sliced
1 ounce sprouts (or lettuce)
6 hamburger buns
Directions
Equipment needed: mixing bowl, measuring spoons, plate, frying pan or grill, metal spatula, pot holder, small knife for testing doneness
1. In the mixing bowl, combine the beef with the Worcestershire or Pickapeppa sauce, salt and pepper. Form into 6 large patties. Refrigerate on a plate until ready to cook.
2. In a large skillet, over medium heat, cook the bacon until crisp and golden, about 8 minutes. Remove the bacon from the pan and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain. Ask an adult to pour the bacon grease out of the pan.
3. Cook the burgers until the bottoms are browned, about 5 minutes. Holding the pan steady with a pot holder, flip the burgers over with the metal spatula and cook to the desired doneness (or ask an adult to flip the burgers). Test with the small knife. Let the burgers rest for about 7 minutes on a plate while you toast the buns.
4. Toast the buns and spread the cut side of the tops with cream cheese. Dunk the tops, cheese side down, lightly into the sunflower seeds. Top each burger with a piece of bacon, a slice of tomato, lettuce or sprouts.
