Obituary: Sylvia A. Rhea

      1939 ~ 2004
Sylvia A. Rhea, beloved daughter, mother, wife, sister, and friend passed away December 28, 2004 after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born December 2, 1939 in Salt Lake City, UT to Arthur Armitage and Mary Jensen Crowther. She attended schools in Salt Lake and graduated from East High School.
After graduating she began working in the trust department at Tracy Collins Bank and Trust Co. A couple of years later she took the Civil Service test. When she passed the test this opened up a whole new world of opportunities for her. Sylvia took a position with the Federal Government working in the Solicitor's Office. After several years she was then promoted to the Federal Bureau of Reclamation, Land Acquisitions Dept. Sylvia retired after 30 years of service where she made many close and dear friends who shared in her life. Sylvia had an all round love of music and enjoyed singing as much as she enjoyed dancing. She had good rhythm and was always at ease and happy dancing. In September of 1982 she and her best friend joined a local square dance club. During her years dancing, she met her husband to be, Ray. She married Raymond Rhea, April 11, 1996 in Salt Lake City and their marriage was later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on Nov. 29, 1997. Sylvia was active in her church and served many callings including ward chorister. Her love of music showed in her smile each Sunday morning while leading the hymns. Sylvia was always a champion for the underdog. She spent many hours caring about others, concerned for their welfare, and giving to the very end.
Sylvia is survived by her father; children, Michelle, Lynnette, David and Matthew; husband Ray; his children Chris, Marci, Corby, and Brandon; grandchildren Sarah, Camille, Brayden, Kadin, Kalaya, Kiarra, Kiona, Tori, Megan, Jaden, Tarron, Dilynn, Colton, and Tenille; sister, Maurine (Mark) Youngs; brother, Brent (Laraine) Crowther; as well as many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. Sylvia was preceded in death by her mother who passed away November 1999.
Funeral services will be held Friday Dec. 31, 2004 at Mt. View 3rd Ward, 1889 So. 1700 E. at 12:00 noon. Family and friends may call Thurs. from 6-8 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 E. 1300 So., and Fri. one hour prior to services at the ward.
Her family wishes to thank the many friends, ward members, and Hospice staff who gave of their time, friendship, and love to care for Sylvia. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Sylvia's honor to the American Cancer Society.
