PROVO — World-class entertainment is coming to the Covey Center for the Arts with the new Mayor's Series for the Performing Arts.

Announced Friday, the series will not only bring major music, dance, drama and comedy headliners to the year-old theater, but also will raise funds for a legacy endowment for the arts, Provo city spokeswoman Helen Anderson said. Series tickets go on sale Monday at the Covey Center ticket office, 425 W. Center, or online at coveycenter.org.

The lineup includes Grammy Award-winning pianist George Winston, Sept. 19; Odyssey Dance Theater's Halloween-themed Thriller, Oct. 10; Thrillionaires with Kirby Heyborne, Jan. 16, 2009; and "Bye Bye Birdie" by Winward Theatricals, a national touring company based in New York City, April 8, 2009.

A major headliner for Nov. 19 is expected to be announced Aug. 3, Anderson said.

"By attending you will also be investing in the arts and similar entertainment opportunities in the future," Mayor Lewis K. Billings said in a statement.
