TYLER YAGI, Skyline: Only a junior, this shortstop is in his third year starting for the Eagles. With all the talent necessary to be successful, Yagi distinguishes himself with his desire and hard work.

"He is the real deal," said coach Brodie Reid. "I can't think of a single thing that Tyler can't do out on the baseball diamond. He is a great leader for us, but I think the best thing is that he is never satisfied. He still wants to get better and works really hard to try to continue getting better all the time. I can't imagine where we would be without him."

Off to a blazing start, Yagi is hitting .500 with a .740 slugging percentage, and he is doing it against top-notch competition with games against two ranked opponents in Utah and a nationally ranked team from Nevada. He also carries a 3.4 GPA.

SHEILA ADAMS, Layton: This junior finds herself playing a key role for the Lancer softball team, a role she never really expected to fill.

"She was never really a regular pitcher," said Layton coach Kevin Jensen. "She would pitch a few innings, but this year, we needed her to be our starting pitcher. She's such a good athlete that she's filled that role. She has to start, to finish and throw back-to-back games. She's stepped up and thrown remarkably."

Adams is also contributing offensively and helped the Lancers defeat Viewmont in a thrilling contest last week. Jensen said she's been so consistent that he moved her from No. 7 to No. 2 in the batting order and "she's coming through in the clutch for us."

Against Viewmont, she had the game-winning hit and earned the win.
