HYRUM (AP) — Want to grapple with some pork? Pig wrestling is coming to northern Utah.

Teams of five people chase a pig and try to put it in a barrel in the fastest time. The pigs will come from local farmers.

The Hyrum City Council wants to host a pig-wrestling event at the city's rodeo grounds. Ray Ann Reed of Nibley, county coordinator of Utah Pig Wrestling, will submit a proposal.

Winners of the local contest, probably in June or August, will move to the state competition in Salt Lake City.

"There's quite a large purse available for the winners at the state competition," Councilwoman Stephanie Miller said. "It makes you stop and think — maybe we ought to all take up pig wrestling."

If successful, the event could be expanded next year to Richmond, Lewiston or Logan, Reed said.

"In Utah, we're so conservative," she said. "The pigs have as much fun as we do. So it's kind of a win-win."
