— LDS GENERAL CONFERENCE —

Elder Earl C. Tingey

Presidency of the Seventy

Missionary service is an inherent responsibility for priesthood holders.
More than 58,000 full-time missionaries now serve in 136 nations and territories. "The excitement and thrill of being a full-time missionary is one of the greatest blessings a young man of the Aaronic Priesthood can aspire to."
Young priesthood holders should prepare for missions by securing a testimony of Christ, studying the Book of Mormon, being clean and pure, paying tithes and offerings, learning to work and serving as a home teacher.
Fathers and grandfathers of future missionaries should provide "a righteous home and an atmosphere of peace and stability where young men can be reared and prepared to serve. Set a personal example of keeping the commandments. Pay tithes and offerings, attend sacrament meetings, read the scriptures and have family home evening so that your sons will be prepared for their missions."
Mature couples should plan to serve a mission. "We need many, many more couple missionaries."
