— LDS GENERAL CONFERENCE —

General Primary President

Parents need to care for the souls of their children in addition to giving them food and comfort. "The blessings of parenting and helping to care for children are many."
"Of all the joys of life, none other equals that of happy parenthood. Of all the responsibilities with which we struggle, none other is so serious," she said, quoting President Gordon B. Hinckley.
Eternal lives and eternal parenthood are the result of righteousness. "Helping to care for the souls of children will help each of us prepare for this eternal blessing."
Studying Heavenly Father's plan for happiness can help us do better than we are doing. "Everything we know about our Heavenly Father is connected with his parenthood, with his loving care for our souls. He loves each of his children unconditionally. We can do the same in our families."
Family councils make children active participants in the family. Parents should attend the temple and become more righteous by keeping their covenants. Young men and women in the church should look to and plan for parenthood.
