— LDS GENERAL CONFERENCE —

Pres. Gordon B. Hinckley

President of the LDS Church

Enough people joined the church last year to constitute 100 new stakes. And it's not easy being a convert — they need friendship, a church responsibility and nurturing "with the good word of God."
"It is our duty to provide these things," President Hinckley said, adding it is a work for everyone in the church. "Your friendly ways are needed, your sense of responsibility."
A program for retaining and strengthening converts will soon go out to all the church, and members should become a part of this great effort. "Every convert is a son or daughter of God. Every convert is a great and serious responsibility."
Young men must be prepared to follow the example of Paul and bear witness of the Redeemer. Happiness comes through remaining pure, avoiding the love of money, obeying the Word of Wisdom, being honest, seeking a good education and preparing for a mission. "You will bless the lives of others as you bless your own."
