Elder Jack H Goaslind

Presidency of the Seventy
Priesthood holders young and old can accomplish great and wonderful things by relying on the Spirit of the Lord.
Elder Goaslind told the story of several young men who heeded Brigham Young's call to rescue two stranded pioneer handcart companies.
Members of the Martin Company were in dire straits. Their food rations were depleted, and many could not walk. Deaths were a daily occurrence in the biting Wyoming winter conditions.
Rescue wagons were quickly filled with suffering survivors, leaving little room for most of the handcarters' possessions. Three adults and 17 young men were asked to stay behind and guard the property.
Despite extreme conditions, the group accepted the charge and, through faith, survived the winter and completed their mission.
The young priesthood holders, like Ammon in the Book of Mormon, learned they could perform many mighty miracles.
