— LDS GENERAL CONFERENCE —

President Gordon B. Hinckley

President of the LDS Church

Area authorities are being reorganized into the new Third, Fourth and Fifth Quorums of the Seventy and will be called Area Authority Seventies. The 134 members "will continue with their present employment, reside in their own homes and serve on a church-service basis."
The church has nearly 9,700,000 members. "We should reach the 10 million mark by the end of this year."
Also, to meet the needs of a growing church, "we hope to break ground on July 24 for a new place of assembly" on the block north of Temple Square that will quadruple the seating capacity of the Tabernacle. General conferences will be held there; Tabernacle Choir broadcasts will remain in the Tabernacle.
New temples will be built in Albuquerque, N.M., and Campinas, Brazil.
A new General Relief Society presidency and new Young Women second counselor have been called.
