— LDS GENERAL CONFERENCE —

Elder Monte J. Brough

Presidency of the Seventy

Every Latter-day Saint must gain a testimony of the divine nature of their calling, understanding that they have been called of God.
"It is very dangerous for any of us to think we have earned the right to a church calling. However, every member must come to know the divine nature of his or her own service in the church."
Members must prepare for every good work that might come to them and then accept the principle that revelation, not aspiration, is the basis for calls to serve the Lord.
Jesus Christ told his apostles: "Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you."
Many times members are chosen for a particular calling because they would not seek such a challenging assignment on their own. That point was well illustrated with a story from Elder Brough's own service as a mission president in Hong Kong.
"Personal and prophetic revelation is the foundation upon which our church service is firmly based."
