Quorum of the Twelve
The power to endure is critical in two vital relationships in life: marriage and membership in the Lord's church.
A person who lacks tenacity to the principle of endurance is much like an individual on a boat who decides to get off before safely reaching shore.
As children may lack the wisdom parents have in such situations, "similarly, we as children of our Heavenly Father may foolishly want to get 'out of the boat' before we arrive at destinations he would like us to reach."
Physical challenges, the infirmities of age and many other life problems demand endurance.
As divorce rates escalate, it is "apparent that many spouses are failing to endure to the end of their commitments to each other." And just as covenants made in marriage should not be taken casually, individuals must not take lightly their responsibilities or the covenants they made in becoming members of the church.
Lacking a strong commitment to the Lord, "an individual is more prone to have a low level of commitment to a spouse. Weak commitments to eternal covenants lead to losses of eternal consequence."
