I'm outta here
DeseretNews.com blogger | Nov. 7, 2009 at 6:59 p.m.
Thanks for reading tonight, folks. It's 45-7 with 6 minutes to go and I'm heading out of here. Enjoy the week of TCU hype.
Pouring it on
DeseretNews.com blogger | Nov. 7, 2009 at 6:49 p.m.
Sausan Shakerin scored on an 8-yard touchdown run to give the Utes a 45-7 lead. Shak has rushed for 100 yards today, and it's the first time this season Utah has had two 100-yard rushers in the same game.
Utes in top 10?
DeseretNews.com blogger | Nov. 7, 2009 at 6:42 p.m.
Thanks for the question. If the Utes beat TCU next week, I do think they would crack the top 10. TCU is No. 6 right now, and could get up to No. 4 when the next rankings come out. You figure if the Utes are 9-1 and just beat the No. 4 team in the nation, it would be a travesty if they aren't in the top 10.
Something goes New Mexico's way
DeseretNews.com blogger | Nov. 7, 2009 at 6:40 p.m.
The Utes missed a field goal but it has little impact on the game, obviously. Utah still leads 38-7.
End of 3
DeseretNews.com blogger | Nov. 7, 2009 at 6:34 p.m.
The Utes are in command of this game, 38-7, at the end of three quarters. I can't wait for next week when Utah travels to TCU. The Horned Frogs are one of the best teams in the nation, ranked No. 6, and have a quality quarterback and a lightning fast defense. It'll be an interesting game.
Wide with an exclamation point
DeseretNews.com blogger | Nov. 7, 2009 at 6:24 p.m.
Eddie Wide added to his big day with a 35-yard touchdown run. He now has 148 yards on 20 carries.
OK, so this game is over. What do you guys think of next week's showdown at TCU?
Wide stands alone
DeseretNews.com blogger | Nov. 7, 2009 at 6:18 p.m.
Eddie Wide set the Utes' record for most consecutive 100-yard rushing games on Utah's last drive. He has 113 yards on 19 carries today, giving him six straight games of going over the century mark.
First pick for Burton
DeseretNews.com blogger | Nov. 7, 2009 at 6:13 p.m.
Brandon Burton recorded his first career interception for the Utes to end the Lobos' latest drive. Utah should be able to add to its lead here fairly quickly.
Utes rolling now
DeseretNews.com blogger | Nov. 7, 2009 at 6:11 p.m.
The Utes have pulled away and look to be on their way to a comfortable win. Sausan Shakerin scored on a 20-yard pass from Jordan Wynn, and then Jereme Brooks — who's having a career day — scored on a 29-yard run. Utah leads 31-7.
On a side note, Eddie Wide is looking to become the first Ute in school history to rush for more than 100 yards in six straight games. He has rushed for 91 yards so far this season. He currently shares the record with Carl Monroe, Mike Anderson and Darrell Mack.

Sorry folks, the comments that were attempted to be posted earlier just barely just showed up. Do you still want to know who I think is going to win or what hash marks are?
Halftime thoughts
DeseretNews.com blogger | Nov. 7, 2009 at 5:48 p.m.
I don't think anyone coming into this game was expecting a classic between these two teams. And so far, it isn't.
It's just been kind of a ho-hum type of game. The Utes are up by about what they should be at 17-7. I don't think they'll face much trouble in the second half.
Jordan Wynn is doing well in his first start. He has completed 13 of 19 passes for 233 yards and a touchdown. As I mentioned earlier, receiver Jereme Brooks has already had a career-high with 114 receiving yards.
Utes stall in red zone
DeseretNews.com blogger | Nov. 7, 2009 at 5:24 p.m.
What was an impressive and efficient two-minute offense for Utah stalled near the goal-line. After driving to the Lobos' 6, the Utes had to settle for a field goal and lead 17-7.
The big play on the scoring drive was a 22-yard pass from Jordan Wynn to David Reed, who got a few extra yards out of the reception thanks to a big block from Kendrick Moeai.
Big day for Brooks
DeseretNews.com blogger | Nov. 7, 2009 at 5:13 p.m.
Jereme Brooks has already recorded a career-high 114 receiving yards today. Just thought you might like to know.
Utes back on top
DeseretNews.com blogger | Nov. 7, 2009 at 5:05 p.m.
The Utes are back in the lead following a 15-play drive. Of all the things to get the Utes' offense going, it was a 15-yard penalty by New Mexico on a second down. That's how you stay winless, folks. The penalty gave Utah an automatic first down, and from there Wynn completed 3 of 4 passes for 39 yards. Eddie Wide finished off the scoring drive, that lasted 6 minutes, 37 seconds with a 1-yard touchdown run.
Utes' defense steps up
DeseretNews.com blogger | Nov. 7, 2009 at 4:52 p.m.
Utah's defense didn't let New Mexico keep the momentum after Wynn's interception. The Utes allowed the Lobos to pick up one first down before forcing them to punt. The game is tied 7-7 with 12 minutes left before halftime.
Lobos answer again
DeseretNews.com blogger | Nov. 7, 2009 at 4:42 p.m.
The Lobos came to play today. Cornerback Emmanuel McPhearson, a freshman, intercepted a Wynn pass on a fourth down play. New Mexico gets the ball back on its own 14.
Lobos answer
DeseretNews.com blogger | Nov. 7, 2009 at 4:38 p.m.
The Utes' habit of playing to the level of their opponent is once again going down. The Lobos tied the game when Donovan Porterie threw a 59-yard touchdown pass to Ty Kirk. Amazingly, the play came on a third-and-17 play. It looked like the Utes had a busted coverage in the secondary.
That's why Wynn is in
DeseretNews.com blogger | Nov. 7, 2009 at 4:31 p.m.
The freshman quarterback was impressive on Utah's second drive, capping it with a 69-yard touchdown pass to Jereme Brooks. He completed three passes on a six-play drive that went for 84 yards. Wynn also threw an 18-yard pass to Brooks on the drive.
No, my math isn't off. The Utes lost 3 yards on a couple of plays.
On that 69-yard touchdown pass, Wynn displayed for a rocket of an arm, hitting Brooks in stride while he was running a post pattern.
Wynn is 5 of 6 passing for 101 yards.
Wynn is in
DeseretNews.com blogger | Nov. 7, 2009 at 4:18 p.m.
After a fairly uneventful opening drive for New Mexico, the big question was answered. And to the surprise of no one, Jordan Wynn got his first as Utah's starting quarterback.
In the time it took me to type that paragraph, the Utes had their first three-and-out of the day. So we'll see what Wynn does the rest of the day. I'm sure he's happy to get those first-drive jitters out. His first possession, it should be noted, went nowhere because on second down a shotgun snap went over his head and he lost 13 yards.
Greetings from Rice-Eccles

Hello, and welcome to today's live blog for the Utes-Lobos game. We're about 15 minutes away from kickoff here and the stadium has thousands of empty seats. There doesn't seem to be much excitement surrounding Utah's game against 0-8 New Mexico today. Nonetheless, I'll be here to provide some analysis from up here in the press box. If you have any comments or questions please feel free to post them. Let's be interactive today.
As far as the game goes, it could be interesting. New Mexico is obviously not all that great this year, but it is capable of keeping the game close. Utah seems to play to the level of its opponents, evidenced by the 22-10 win over Wyoming last week. The Utes should win by a couple of touchdowns though.
