At the same time that President Obama was declaring that he will no longer defend the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), our Utah Governor Gary Herbert was receiving a "Champion on the Family" award for his public support of marriage between a man and a woman.

A beautiful painting titled "Family", by Anne Marie Oborn, was presented to Governor Herbert — in appreciation for his work in support of the family — by Laura Bunker, Director of United Families Utah (UFU).

Phil Marriott, Chairman of the Board for United Families Internation (UFI), mentioned others who received the Champion of the Family award, including Gifford and Wendy Nielsen in 2008, and Governor Mitt Romney in 2006.

The Governor thanked United Families for the lovely painting, and expressed appreciation for the work of United Families of Utah. He also discussed a program his wife is working on — to promote and strengthen parenting skills.
