HAVING MADE IT TO THE FINALS of "So You Think You Can Dance," Ryan and Ashleigh Di Lello finally got to dance together for the first time since auditions.
And it was obviously a big moment for the Utah couple.
"It's perfect," Ashleigh said tearfully.
"The hallmark of that for me was to experience the incredible tenderness. And that was worth a lot to me," said judge Adam Shankman.
"It's very rare for a married couple to have a moment like this on a world stage," said judge Mary Murphy. "And, man oh man, what a memory this night is going to be for the two of you."
The Di Lellos and the other four finalists performed Tuesday; one will declared "America's favorite dancer," based on viewers' votes, in Wednesday's season finale (7 p.m. Fox/Ch. 13).
Not surprisingly, the Di Lellos had not been permitted to compete as partners since the top 20 were chosen. On Tuesday, however, each of the three male finalists performed with each of the female finalists.
Before the Di Lellos danced together, the judges mostly praised their partners. And judge/executive producer Nigel Lythgoe addressed the fact that Ashleigh was voted into the finals despite being unable to perform last week because of an injury. Furthermore, Ryan made a tearful appeal to viewers on his wife's behalf a week ago, which may have helped him as well.
"A lot of people would say that both of you are here in this finale this week because of the groundswell of emotion that was caused by your injury last week," Lythgoe said. "I say the pair of you have accounted for yourselves very, very well tonight.
"I still feel, Ashleigh, you have got better chemistry with (fellow finalist) Jakob (Karr) than you have with your husband."
"Not true," Ryan said, shaking his head.
