10-day trial

OKLAHOMA CITY — Ten days is not much time to evaluate anyone.
"It's difficult,'' Jazz coach Jerry Sloan said. "It's not fair sometimes.''
But the Jazz have liked what they've seen from rookie Othyus Jeffers during that short span, so on Sunday they're fully expected to sign the NBA Development League call-up to his second 10-day contract.
Jeffers, promoted from Iowa of the D-League and signed to a 10 earlier this month because Utah needed to fill its 13th roster spot, played briefly in recent wins over the Los Angeles Clippers and Chicago.
He dressed but didn't play, however, in Wedesday's win at Detroit and Friday's loss at Milwaukee.
The Jazz will have to decide after the anticipated second 10-day if they want to guarantee Jeffers' contract for the rest of the season or return him to Iowa.
But it appears as if they're giving strong consideration to using the roster spot on a veteran big man — perhaps ex-Jazz center Mikki Moore, if he's fully recovered from December heel surgery — instead.
