Randy Hollis
Randy Hollis is a member of the Deseret News Vis-Ed team, primarily working on copy editing and page layout/design for the sports department. He also writes a weekly sports column which typically runs each Sunday. He came to the Deseret News in August 2007 following a 34-year career as a sports writer/editor and columnist at the Standard-Examiner newspaper in Ogden, Utah, where he spent two-plus years as a member of their universal copy desk. Randy attended Weber State on an academic scholarship and graduated from Weber State in 1974 with a Bachelor's degree in Communications, with an emphasis in journalism. He received invaluable practical experience while working for Weber State's school newspaper, The Signpost, for four years while pursuing his college education. A California native, Randy has lived in Roy, Utah, for more than 50 years and is the proud father of four talented, beautiful daughters (fortunately, they look like their mom). He and his wife, Susan, are both graduates of Roy High School and Weber State. All four of his daughters also graduated from Roy High, and three of them graduated from Weber State as well. Before his knees went bad, he enjoyed playing slow pitch softball and church basketball for many years. Nowadays, his hobbies include Fantasy Football, Rotisserie League Baseball and playing golf -- very badly. He is also a licensed residential real estate appraiser and runs a small business, Hollis Industrial Supply, which was founded by his father in the 1960s.
