BYU is the only local school to receive votes in the college football preseason Amway Coaches Top 25 Poll released Thursday morning.

The Cougars, who went 8-5 last season, received 18 votes but are unranked.

Defending national champion Florida State is ranked No. 1 with 56 first-place votes and 1,543 points. Alabama, Oklahoma, Oregon and Auburn round out the top five.

Six teams from the Pac-12 made the preseason Top 25. In addition to the Ducks, teams include UCLA (No. 7), Stanford (11), USC (15), Arizona State (18) and Washington (25). Utah plays all but the Huskies during the 2014 season.

Texas, which will host the Cougars on Sept. 6, is ranked 24th.

BYU's Bronco Mendenhall is one of the 62 FBS-level coaches who make up this year's voting panel.

The preseason Associated Press Top 25 poll will be released Aug. 17.
