LAYTON — A viewing has been scheduled for Kaylynn Spackman, a Layton mother and Hill Air Force Base employee who was stabbed to death in her home Sunday night.
A viewing for Spackman will be open to the public 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Road.
Spackman's family has opened a memorial fund in her name at America First Credit Union to support funeral expenses and other finances, according to an announcement Wednesday. Donations can be made at any America First branch.
Spackman's estranged husband, 45-year-old Joe Joseph Castillo, has been charged with murder, a first-degree felony, and other charges in Spackman's death. Police say he stabbed his wife of 20 years multiple times with a kitchen knife during an argument Sunday.
The couple had been separated, and Spackman had filed a protective order against Castillo in previous months.
Castillo reportedly fought off his son, who attempted to stop the attack, and fled when a neighbor arrived. He was arrested Tuesday in Tooele.
