LARAMIE, Wyoming — Junior Nic Bowens wrapped up his historic weekend with three gold medals, sophomore Cole Lambournetopped the podium twice and senior Kaylee Hartshorn added an additional event title for the Aggies in Laramie, Wyoming, Saturday during the final day of competition at the 2014 Mountain West Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Additionally, both of Utah State's men's relay teams finished first.
Following the meet, Bowens was named the recipient of the Outstanding Performer Award. The junior also won the Outstanding Performer Award at this year's Mountain West Indoor Championship meet.
Utah State's men's team garnered third place in the team standings with 127 points, while the Aggie women finished sixth with 78 points. In total, USU collected 22 first-team all-Mountain West selections for finishes of first through third place and 20 second-team all-conference honors for athletes who placed fourth through sixth.
Bowens started the day off by joining seniors Jacob Bautista Jr. and Silas Pimentel, as well as sophomore Parker Bluth, in winning the 4x100m with a school-record time of 39.44. Bowens then added an event title in the 100m with a time of 10.18 and again in the 200m with a Utah State-record time of 20.72. Bluth finished right behind Bowens in second-place in both the 100m and 200m, recording times of 10.42 and 21.06, respectively. Pimentel placed fourth in the 100m and fifth in the 200m, finishing with times of 10.52 and 21.42, respectively.
"It's great to have these guys to help push each other. One sets a personal record and then the next sets a personal record, and we just push one another until we're at the top," said Bowens. "I consider all of those guys my brothers. When one of us wins we don't get mad, we just want to do better next time."
Sophomore Cole Lambourne added another title for the Aggies, taking first in the 400m with a personal best time of 46.71. That time is the sixth-best time in the history of Utah State.
"I've been chasing that 46 second goal for my whole career, so when I looked up at that scoreboard it just felt like all the hard work had paid off," Lambourne said of his performance.
Lambourne also joined Bluth, freshman Austin Groll and sophomore Tanner Hunt to cap off the meet with a title in the 4x400m relay race. The team crossed the finish line in 3:09.84, the second-fastest time in school-history.
Senior Kaylee Hartshorn was the lone champion on the women's side for Utah State, winning the javelin with a personal-best toss of 47.74m (156-07), good for second-best all-time at Utah State.
Joining the above on the first-team all-Mountain West squad was junior Chari Hawkins, who finished runner-up in the 100m hurdles, crossing the finish line in 13.53. Additionally, senior Kylie Ross garnered third in the 400m hurdles after finishing in 59.59, good for fifth-fastest in USU history. On the men's side, senior Bryce Hall placed third in the shot put, recording a distance of 17.28m (56-08.50).
