Golden Spike site to mark railroad's completion

GOLDEN SPIKE NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE — The Golden Spike National Historic Site on Saturday will commemorate the 145th anniversary of the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad.

There will be a ceremony including guest speakers, a remembrance those who lost their lives while building the railroad, two re-enactment ceremonies and live music.

The Golden Spike visitors center will open at 9 a.m., and there will be historic photograph re-creations for those in period dress at 10 a.m.

The ceremony begins at 11:30 a.m., with keynote speaker Aaron Hunt, director of corporate relations and media for Union Pacific Railroad.

Activities will continue until 5 p.m. when the visitors center closes. More details can be found at the historic site's website, nps.gov/gosp.
