Senior infielder Debra Lovell was named the Western Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week following her stellar play at the plate for Utah Valley University in last week's action. It is the first weekly honor for Lovell in her career at UVU and is the fifth of the season for Wolverine softball.
Through four games last week, Lovell went 7-of-13 with a double, three home runs and seven RBIs. The Downey, Calif., native posted a .538 batting average, a 1.308 slugging percentage and a .571 on-base percentage. Lovell got the week started with a three-run home run against Utah State on Wednesday and concluded the week with a two-homer performance at Seattle U on Saturday. It was the first multi home run game of her career and helped the Wolverines hold off the Redhawks by a score of 13-12 for the WAC victory.
After homering in the fourth inning, Lovell came to the plate with the Wolverines trailing SU, 10-9, in the do-or-die seventh inning. The senior came through in a big way, mashing a solo shot over the wall to tie the score and ignite what would become the decisive UVU rally.
Stephanie Pesqueira, a senior from Grand Canyon, won the WAC Pitcher of the Week award. Utah Valley and GCU meet this weekend for a three-game conference series at Wolverine Field.
