Andrea Nelson Harrison headlined a successful day at the Trojan Invitational with a first-place finish in the 3000m steeplechase.
“We are excited to be outdoors in Southern California,” head coach Ed Eyestone said. “To get two regional marks in the hammer in the first outdoor meet of the year is a great performance for the team, and we are looking forward to more great performances tomorrow.”
Martha Shepard and Deezbaa Whaley finished in third and fourth place, respectively, in the hammer throw, both earning marks that automatically qualify them to compete in the NCAA regional meet (57.67m, 57.51m).
Harrison also expects to qualify for the regional meet with her time in the steeplechase of 10:26.04. Jennica Redd finished in third in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10:45.47. Carrie Jube finished in third place in the 5000m race with a time of 16:52.39.
The Cougars continue competition in the Trojan Invitational on Saturday morning with the 4x100m relay.
