WEST VALLEY CITY — In an arena where hockey players try to score goals, student-made robots are trying to do the same.
The FIRST Robotics Competition is taking place at the Maverik Center, having started Friday and continuing Saturday 8:30-5:30 p.m. Admission is free.
The competition is a program that challenges high school students — working with professional mentors — to design and build a robot to contend in competitions that measure the effectiveness of each robot, the power of collaboration and the determination of students.
It features a game called Aerial Assist, in which team alliances compete by trying to score as many balls in goals as possible during a two-minute and 30-second match.
