High school boys basketball: South Sevier tops Layton Christian in 2A playoff's opening round

Trevor Jones scored a game-high 31 points and Garrett Peterson added 16 as South Sevier pulled the upset, beating Layton Christian to advance to the 2A boys basketball quarterfinals on Saturday.

It was a three-point contest heading into the fourth quarter, but South Sevier — the fourth-seeded team from Region 15 — outscored Region 14 No. 1 seed Layton Christian 22-16 in the final period.

Gerardo Munoz paced Layton Christian with 17 points in the loss.

South Sevier advances to the state quarterfinals, where it will play Region 13 second seed Parowan next Thursday at the Sevier Valley Center. Parowan defeated Manti 56-50 to advance.
