Utah Valley University men's golfer JT Timmons has been named the Western Athletic Conference Golfer of the Week for Feb. 10-16, announced Tuesday by the league office.
Timmons, a freshman from Holladay, Utah, recorded his first-ever win last week at the Pat Hicks Invitational in St. George, Utah. It was only the fourth collegiate competition of his short career. Timmons' tournament-winning 10-under-par 134 over 36 holes was also the lowest score ever carded at the tournament, besting the previous mark of 135.
Carding 5-under 67s in both rounds of the two-day tournament, Timmons was able to hold off Dixie State's Hayden Christensen and earn the record-setting victory by four strokes.
He is the first men's golfer in UVU's program history to earn a win during his freshman campaign. and he became the second Wolverine to win the Pat Hicks Invitational, following in the footsteps of former UVU great Mason Casper who won the tournament in 2011.
Grand Canyon's Charlotte Jaengkit earned the same honor on the women's side after finishing second at the Le Triomphe Collegiate Invitational last week.
UVU men's golf returns to action next week at the Snowman Getaway in Goodyear, Ariz.
