FILLMORE — An iron mine has been approved for central Utah by the Bureau of Land Management.
The BLM Utah Fillmore Field Office last week approved the proposed the Long Ridge Iron Mine project by signing the decision record and releasing a finding of no significant impact.
The Long Ridge placer mining project will disturb approximately 45 acres of federal public lands 35 miles west of Delta, to mine iron from alluvial deposits. Although the combined total disturbance on federal and state lands is 65 acres, the project will disturb no more than 10 acres at a time. Additionally, rolling reclamation will be completed as the project progresses.
The reports on the project can be viewed on the Environmental Notification Board, www.blm.gov/ut/enbb/index.php.
