Do you pray about the outcome of sporting events? Do you believe that a higher power is helping or cursing your team?
If you do, you're not alone.
Wayne Slater of the Dallas Morning News presented these questions to various religious scholars and professors, and got a variety of answers.
The survey that served as the impetus for Slaters' story was from the Public Religion Research Institute. It showed that half of all sports fans in America believe God plays a role in the games they watch and the teams they cheer for, according to Slater.
“That includes Americans who pray for God to help their team (26 percent), think their team has been cursed (25 percent) or more generally believe God is involved in determining who wins on the court or in the field (19 percent),” Slater said.
