SALT LAKE CITY — The Bureau of Land Management has approved land in Tooele County for a gold mining project.
The BLM Utah Salt Lake Field Office released a finding of no significant impact and signed the decision record approving the Kiewit Mine Project, about 43 acres of federal land surface disturbance associated with the mine 4 miles southeast of Gold Hill.
An environmental assessment analyzed the potential impacts related to the proposed open-pit mine and waste rock disposal facility on public land, as well as cyanide heap leach processing facilities on adjacent patented land. The combined total project disturbance on federal, state and private land is 105 acres.
Documents related to the project can be viewed online at blm.gov.
