BYU women's basketball: Cougars visit Spokane for showdown with Gonzaga

SPOKANE, Wash. — The BYU women's basketball team opens up West Coast Conference road play Thursday with a showdown against Gonzaga.

The Bulldogs (12-3, 2-1) and Cougars (13-2, 3-1) both trail league-leading San Diego in the WCC standings. Thursday's game tips off at 7 p.m. MST and will be broadcast live on BYU Radio.

BYU boasts three players averaging double figures — Jennifer Hamson (19.2 points per game), Lexi Eaton (15.7 ppg) and Kim Beeston (12.1 ppg). The Cougars split their two WCC home games last week, losing to Pacific, 75-62, and defeating Saint Mary's, 69-67.

Gonzaga, the preseason favorite to win the WCC championship, is coming off a 56-24 victory at Portland last weekend. The Bulldogs also have three players averaging double figures in Haiden Palmer (15.7 ppg), Sunny Greinacher (11.3 ppg) and Lindsay Sherbert (10.2 ppg).

Gonzaga swept the season series last year, beating the Cougars three times, including the conference tournament semifinals. The Bulldogs lead the all-time series, 7-5. The last time BYU beat Gonzaga in Spokane was on Dec. 2, 2000, when the Cougars earned a 74-57 win.
